Feel the need in me  –  Anita Baker (Beverly Glen Records was a small outfit who released Anita’s first solo work and it had Soul fans running to the ‘import’ record shops to get their ‘fix’ … exlead vocalist of Chapter Eight  – written and produced by Patrick Moten  … from the lp ‘The Songstress’)

From now on  –  Linda Clifford (Linda has got a second chance to treat her man right  …  written by  Bunny Sigler  – this trak was originally sung by Lou Rawls … they extended it with a more Funky arrangement – with the even present Jones Girls on background vocals  … Released on Curtom Records)

Last night i needed somebody  –  Shirley Jones (Shirley along with her sisters formed the trio ‘The Joneses Girls’ whose background vocal work included Diana Ross, Dexter Wansel & Linda Clifford …  Shirley steps out on her own for this Philadelphia International release   …  not to be confused with The Partridge Family’s Shirley Jones)

I’m gonna wash that man right outa my hair  –  The Weather Girls (Their writer/producer Paul Jabara picked these two women as they helped extend his minor hit ‘Dance’ into a disco classic as part of the studio group ‘Paradise Express’  – whilst changing their name from “Two Tons O’ Fun” …  from the Broadway musical/film” South Pacific”  – written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein)

Grand Prix  –  Fuse One (An idea concocted by label head Creed Taylor was an lp of top Jazz session men to come together as one where no one person was the leader  …  some trax were recorded at Rudy Van Gelder Studios which was the studio of choice for Blue Note Records  … this is a Jazz-Funk nugget – you have to know where to dig to find it)

Body  –   Funky Green Dogs (Originally called ‘Funky Green Dogs from Outer Space’ – this is a cut from Star their second lp/cd featuring a new vocalist Tamara Wallace  …  mixed by the late Peter Rahoufer who Jocelyn Brown introduced me to at The Jazz Cafe’ in London some years ago)

If it feels good you, do it  –  Della Reese (Now known more for the television series ‘Touched by an angel’  rather than her vocal skills –  this lady who started singing with Mahalia Jackson and touching on opera before getting to this AVCO Records 7″ also released on Hugo & Luigi Records)
