Trax feat. Five Special, Melba Moore, Skyy, Taylor Dayne

Heaven (you are to me)  –  Five Special (Cleverly named as there were  five members of the band … helped up the ladder by Ron Banks – lead vocalist of The Dramatics … his  brother Bryan Banks of one of the band members)

Good love makes everything alright  –  Melba Moore (From her second ‘Buddha Records’ album comes this under-stated Disco classic … co-written by Van McCoy – this trak turned up on her on her iconic Richie Rivera remixed album ‘Dancin with Melba’ which was released after he departed Buddah)

Skyyzoo  –  Skyy ( From the original album ‘Skyyway’ and remixed by Larry Levan … an eight piece band including three sisters, Denise, Bonnie & Delores Dunning – majority of the trax were written by Solomon Roberts and Randy Muller)

Can’t get enough of your love  –  Taylor Dayne (Blasting out of Clive Davis’s Arista Records – Taylor had a number of hits before she covered Barry White’s ‘Can’t get enough of your love’ … produced and remixed David Cole & Robert Clivilles also known as “C & C Music Factory”)

Trax feat. Luther Vandross, Harry Thuman, Sweet Thunder, Jocelyn Brown

I who have nothing  –  Luther Vandross with Martha Wash (Written by Leiber & Stoller and made famous by Ben E King and was inspired by an Italian composition … Luther has had a cover version on all his solo albums and one is ‘this is the top of the tree’)

Underwater  –  Harry Thuman (Could be described as “I feel love”s younger brother – as  this is a trak Giorgio Moroder wouldhave been be proud of  …  recorded in Munich Germany and released on Baby Records)

Everybody’s singing love songs  –  Sweet Thunder (This quartet was assigned to a wonderfully named ‘WE MEN of TALENT production company and released on Fantasy Records … featuring Booker Newberry 111 on lead vocals)

Freedom  –  Jocelyn Brown (The No.1 jobbing vocalist – famed for her Gospel trained larynx, she is known for laying down vocals for Disco, House, Garage, Boogie, Reggae, Jazz not to mention countless background sessions … this is courtesy of her own Sweet Chocolate production company)

Trax feat. Gladys Knight, Biddu Orchestra, Peter Brown, Manu Dibango

If you only knew  –  Gladys Knight (After ‘The Pips’ and Gladys went their separate way – she continued with her solo career, eventually signed on the dotted line with MCA Records releasing ‘Just for you’ from which this is culled … dedicated to my late brother as Gladys was his favourite singer)

Jump for joy  –  Biddu Orchestra (Biddu – an Indian national came to the U.K and became known as the producer of Carl Douglas’s monster single ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ before his Orchestra started having hits … Biddu later went to produce hits for artists in his native land)

Burning love breakdown  –  Peter Brown (Peter released a 9 minutes plus 12″ of “Do you want to get funky with me” on ‘Drive’, an imprint of TK Records … however the b side of some releases – mainly U.S copies contained this awesome edit)

Soul Makossa  –  Manu Dibango (The original inspired the chorus of Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna be startin’ somethin”  … this was remixed by JohNick for Atlantic/Rhino remixed project “Everybody Dance ! Remixed Dance Classics” )
