Today’s trax

Here comes the sun  –  Nina Simone (A George Harrison composition shows that Nina can not only be Wild & Sultry but Soft & Soulful also)

Mi Corazon  –  Kat Mandu (A studio outfit from Canada which was put together by Denis LePage who went on to bigger success with another studio group ‘Lime’)

Make them dance  –  Defunkt (It says it in the title  …  Joe Bowie on slide trombone and lead vocals, Kim Clarke  – a black female bassist  amongst others made a very tight band live)

On the West Side  –  Mateo & Matos (This is the chopped version of ‘Act like you know – Fat Larry’s Band’ with an additional House backbeat)

Today’s trax

I’d rather go blind  –  Margie Joseph (This trak was very much affiliated with Etta James … but this obliterate the others)

Going out of my head  –  Esther Phillips (Creed Taylor – owner of Kudu records decided to get Esther to record an lp of covers as she had a hit with a discofied version of the Dinah Washington evergreen)

Fire   –  Ohio Players (Though they were famed for the lp covers – a bald headed black woman on usually a gatefold sleeve – this was the trak that set the world alight)

Jump for joy   –  Joi Cardwell  (Jokingly called ‘Lady Eightball’ because she was the most consistent  artist on said label)

Today’s trax

Love gonna get you  –  Jocelyn Brown (This is where “Snap’s The Power” came from also the original trak of  “I’m gonna get you – Bizarre Inc feat. Angie Brown” to name but two)

Nice and slow  –  Jesse Green (A U.K. recording that was  licensed to Scepter/Wand in the U.S. …. was mixed by Mel Cherren who was then an A&R man at S/W and later owned West End Records)

International  –  Brass Construction (Producer’s Randy Muller Guyanese background gave B.C.  an opportunity to dip their feet in the Calypso/Soca musical waters)

Darkness  –  Satoshie Tomeii feat. Robert Owens (Once part of David Morales/Frankie Knuckles Dj set …. from a platinum quality cd/lp “Full Lick”)
