Today’s trax

Lean on me  –  Thelma Houston featuring The Winans (From film of the same name about a motivating teacher  …  featuring Morgan Freeman  …  written by Bill Withers)

Crying  –  Instant Funk (Their name was Instant Funk but that did not stop them tearing up the dance  floors with this slice of Disco)

Horse with no name  –  1st Light (A band which featured Paul Hardcastle decides to cover one of the biggest ‘Soft Rock’ anthem of the early 70’s by ‘America’)

Latin Lover  –  Stephanie Mills (Masters at Work let the House/Garage music fans know that the original ‘Dorothy ‘ from the musical  ‘The Wiz’ can still ‘ease on down the road’ vocally speaking)

Today’s trax

Sunshine  –  The Impressions (The Impressions who once had Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield in their group dusts off  a trak by The O’Jay’s from a few years previous – making it their own)

Hold on I’m coming  – Aretha Franklin ( … lyrics of Little Jack Horner & The Queen of Hearts nursery rhymes were added to this Isaac Hayes & David Porter composition that had been previously been recorded by ‘Sam and Dave’)

Slick Eddie  –  Sonny Stitt (One of the last lp released on Chess Records subsidiary Cadet …  50’s saxophone player changes with the times to bring us this ‘JazzFunk’ wonderment)

Avareh  –  The Lost Tribes of Ibadan (Dennis Ferrer throws in some African rhythms and chants to make this a most unusual, interesting but still enjoying trak)

Today’s trax

Little ghetto boy  –  Donny Hathaway (From the original sound trak ‘Come Back Charleston Blue’  …. this was the first film i saw as a ‘not quite a young adult’ @) The Classic, Piccadilly Circus, London)

All night long (Instrumental)  –  Lionel Ritchie (In’84 Motown released ‘Making Trax’  – an album of instrumental versions of their current hits … this shows the instrumental is also a great stand alone trak)

Chameleon  –  Jazz Warriors (Released on their own Jazz Warriors label … they put their stamp on this Jazz-funk classic originally by Herbie Hancock and his backing band – soon to be named The Headhunters)

Shine on me  – Lovestation featuring Lisa Hunt (This phenomenal vocalist released a cd on Nature Beat Music … oh yes it’s ‘Phenomenal’)
