Today’s trax

Inner City Blues  –  Denys Baptiste featuring Juliet Roberts (U.K saxophonist Denys gives this Marvin Gaye evergreen a more laid-back feel which makes it ‘up there’ with the best of the Marvin Gaye covers)

Mirage  –  Kebekeletrik (Canadian studio band featuring Gino Soccio … produced by Pat Deserio …. originally released on Le Disques Direction Records in Canada and later re-released on Salsoul in U.S.A. with some’ touching up’ by the ‘touching up’ maestro Tom Moulton at Sigma Sound Studio, Philadelphia which also included percussion as ‘Moto’ by the man himself)

Take me to the next phase  –   Isley Brothers (They’ve been covered by The Beatles, Lulu & ‘Salt n Pepa’ to name a few  …  had their own label : T-Neck named after their locality Teaneck (New Jersey, U.S.A)  …  this trak was also included in a lp/cd of remixes  or as the label describes it as ‘reconstructions’ of the same name)

You can’t touch me  –  Karen Pollard (Also released records under the names of  Karen Pollack – released on the iconic Emotive Records out of New York)

Today’s trax

Nothing compares 2 u  –  Jimmy Scott (Was in a shop earlier today and heard Sinead’s version – so i decided i would use Prince’s featuring Rosie Gaines version which is on his ‘Hits/B Sides compilation but couldn’t find so i decided to use Jimmy’s instead which is on a French mix compilation  …  he was one of the Greats that most people did not realise  …  research Scott yourself as he had a very unusual life)

Dancer  –  Gino Soccio  (After getting credit and respect for studio group Kebekeletrik – Canadian Gino released his first solo lp to critical acclaim on Canada’s Celebration Records which was pick up by WEA Records subsidiary RFC for worldwide distribution)

Ain’t no stopping us now  –  Tower of Power (This  band have now been going for over 40 years and their off-shot ‘The Tower of Power Horns’ have recorded and toured with the who’s who of Rock including Elton John)

Funk it  –  Ralphie Rosario (Raphie decided to offer his various productions to a variety of labels  including Night Grooves/King Street Records in New York … a manic near tribal floor shaker that never lets up then when you think that’s it – a female vocal comes in the mix to make it boil)

Today’s trax

Once upon a time  –  Donna Summer  (This was a fairytale in in four vinyl (record) parts  …. in Harlequin Records, Leicester Square, London – there was this big cardboard poster of the lp that i tried to buy but was told it was already claimed by a member of staff)

The Main Event  –  Barbra Streisand (Film sound trak of the same name  starring Ryan O’Neal  subtitled ‘a glove story’ …  Barbra has put her feet twice in the Disco pool which were both written by Paul Jabara and Bruce Roberts  … Barbra previously  starred Ryan in What’s up Doc movie)

Groove to get down  –  T-Connection (Anthony Flowers – Drums & Percussion also  KIrkwood Coakley – Drums & Bass are part of the reason why T-Connection sounds so unique …. an lp trak from their second lp called ‘On Fire’ which lived up to it’s name because – “this is hot”

Play with the voice  –  J.T. Vannelli featuring Csilla (From Hungary came this voice which was recorded in Italy then licence to Nervous Records, New York with ‘additional construction’ by Little Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez for Master At Work Productions)
