Today’s trax

I am love  –  Jennifer Holliday (After been the one of the featured vocalists in the hit Broadway show ‘Dreamgirls’ – Jennifer  releases a trak from her first lp ‘Feel my soul’  …  produced by Maurice White of  ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’)

Disco Circus  –  Martin Circus (Martin Circus was a French group who were together a number of years before they released their  magnum opus  … this trak has a very complicated arrangement with so many twists and turns which shows musicianship  …  re-released in U.S.A on Prelude Records)

You’re lying  –  Linx (They  self-releleased the single which was then picked up and rereleased by Chrysalis Records – who also assign them to the company  …  fronted by David Grant & ‘Sketch’ Martin – they were dubbed as part of the “BritFunk” movement by the media)

Thinkin’ bout your love  –  Pamela Frazier (One-off single released on Basement Boys Records  …  one of their lesser known trax – not to be confused by with a similar named trak by Skipworth and Turner)

Today’s trax

Go on without you  –  Shirley Murdoch (As a former background vocalist for Roger (Troutman) and his group Zapp – Shirley releases this Roger produced trak along with the rest of her first solo lp/cd … released on Elektra Records)

Spirit of love  –  Root Soul featuring Vanessa Freedom and Mike Patto (Chilli Funk’s recording artist  Vanessa teams up with Reel People’s Mike teams up with this retro Disco masterpiece … Restless Soul’s Phil Asher works his magic to make the 4 minute cd trak into a 12 minute 12″)

Feelin’ strong  –  Morning, Noon & Night (Wonderfully named Funk band whose label was Roadshow Records however with variety of distribution deals – the solo lp and the few singles released  were lost in the re-shuffles  … this is the b-side of their single ‘Bite your Granny’)

In the night  –  Kings of Tomorrow featuring Littleton Brown (Sandy Rivera & Jose’ Burgos are K.o.T. … co-written by Littleton  and Sandy Rivera released on the French dance label Distance Records)

Love don’t love nobody  –  The Spinners (After leaving Motown Records for Atlantic and now under the direction of producer Thom Bell  … this Joe Jefferson/Charles Simmons evergreen tells of the trials and tribulations, pain & suffering of love … known as the Detroit Spinners in Europe so not to get mistaken for the U.K. folk group of the same name)

Never, never gonna give you up  –  Barry White (The ‘King of Bedroom Soul’  –  in interviews he said men and women, husbands & wives said ‘Thank You’ as his music helped bringing ‘Little Johnny’ into this world  … the music was great in the clubs also as this trak can attest)

P-Funk (Wants to get funked up)  –  Parliament (George Clinton and company started life as a straight up vocal group however problems with their record label made them change direction – so they jumped into the ‘Funk Pool’ much to the benefit of us ‘Funkateers’ and lots of Hip Hop Artists who has sampled them to death)

Deep dark jungle  –  Victor Calderone (One of New York’s biggest secret … tribal, dark, meaty are some of the words to describe his music …. sometimes he would reconstruct rather than remix the trak … released on Statrax Records)
