Today’s trax

Now that you’re gone  –  Martha Wash (Talent – sadly to say is not enough to be successful otherwise this lady would have been a mega-star … she was one of  ‘Two Tons o’ Fun and The Weather Girls, most of the vocals of Black Box, duetted with Luther Vandross and of the immortal vocal opening line ‘Everybody dance now’ …  her name should have been instantly recognisable but – it isn’t)

Castles in the sky  –  The Futures (This group turned up on Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff’s Gamble  Records then unto Buddah Records (from which is the lp  title trak – now on cd with bonus trax) then back with Gamble & Huff’s on their Philly International Records)

Prime Cut  –  Rhythm Makers (This trak is the b-side to Zone – released in the U.K. on Polydor – an absolute corker … this band was renamed GQ (Good Quality) and were assigned to Arista Records – the name is quite apt as their recordings are of GQ)

Fly  –  280 West featuring Diamond Temple (An un-hurried Garage trak released on Phuture Sole Records out of Newark, New Jersey … with background vocals by Kenny Bobien – this is as elegant production which mainly went un-noticed by the majority of record buyers)

Today’s trax

As it’s our first anniversary – i am re-publishing our first ever blog … of course we mustn’t forget if you click on the follow window – you will automatically receive the blog as an e-mail …  ENJOY !

Somebody’s  gotta win, somebody’s gotta lose  –  The Controllers (I initially had no interest in this group – as the cover looked so boring and uninteresting (never judge a record by it’s cover) talking to someone in a record shop  … believe this label was owned by Frederick Knight)

In the forest  –  Baby O (A jam session of polished session musicians … was released in the U.K on Precision Records and Tapes (PRT) or PRAT as the then record buyer of HMV Birmingham called them – though they certainly weren’t to licence this infectious piece of Disco)

Tailgunner  –  Jimmy McGriff  (A ‘B’ side with ‘A’ side attitude – the A side was Sky Hawk … released on the T.K. distributed Lester Radio Corporation … a Hammond organ player of magnitude he adapted to the current musical styles of the times)

Why we sing  –  Kenny & Friends (Released on the short-lived Equip Records  – this is trak is a slice of Gospel-House inspired by the Gospel standard ‘His eye is on the sparrow’  …. a version was featured on the movie ‘Sister Act 2’ …. as a friend said when he first heard Kenny’s soaring vocals ‘take it to church’)
