Today’s trax

Good Friend  –  George Duke featuring Jeffrey Osbourne, Stephanie Mills, Irene Cara, Joyce Kennedy, Kenny Loggins & Deniece Williams (George was a musician who wore many hats – writer, arranger and producer … released on Elektra Records  … check out his discography)

Supership  –  George ‘Bad’ Benson (Whilst George was assigned to CTI Records (Creed Taylor Incorporated)  – he released an lp called ‘Bad Benson’  however the b-side of this single (My Latin Brother) was culled from that album …  the a-side turned up on ‘ The Sound of things to come’ – a CTI compilation)

Try, try, try  –  Ramp (Word on the streets ‘Ramp’ meant ‘Roy Ayers Music Production’ – which is plausible as all trax on the original  lp were written by Ayers and his associates and was also produced by him)

Lift up your hands  –  Xodus featuring Dawn Tallman (Early Gospel-House … Originally released on Jellybean Benitez’s ‘Jellybean Recordings’ … co-written by Paul Scott & Shank Thompson also known as ‘Brothers of Peace’)

Today’s trax

Am i dreaming  –  Atlantic Starr (Formed by the Lewis Brothers – David, Johnathan and Wayne along with Sharon Bryant as a co-lead vocalist, they were assigned to ‘A & M’ Records (Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss)  … written by Sam Dees and produced by James Anthony Carmichael – known for his productions of The Commodores and Lionel Ritchie)

Munich Machine – Munich Machine introducing The Midnite Ladies (Giorgio Moroder was having hits with Donna Summer & Roberta Kelly so he decided to condense them into a medley which was the whole of the ‘b’ side of the lp … originally released on his own ‘Oasis Records’)

Butterfat  –  David Sanborn (After playing sessions on a variety of Jazz and Pop records including Esther Phillips, George Benson & Players Association – saxophonist David has a magical start with the first trak of his first lp … released on Warner Brothers Records)

Spread Love  –  Lenny Fontana presents Black Sun (Lenny was Paradise Garage participant – so not surprisingly that when he went to produce trax including cover versions – he did not turn them into manure … originally recorded by Al Hudson & The Soul Partners)

Today’s trax

Violet, don’t be blue  –  Herbie Mann featuring Cissy Houston (Herbie was virtuoso flautist who changed with the times which was sometimes ‘out of step’ with the purists … Cissy is now better known as Whitney’s mother however she was a top session vocalist in her own right and part of ‘The Sweet Inspirations’ vocal quartet)

Don’t let go  –  Isaac Hayes (Written by the musical titan Jesse Stone and recorded by Manhattan Transfer amongst others … Isaac re-arranged it into a big booming Disco trak the simmers without boiling over)

Do it anyway you wanna  –  Cashmere (Co-written by Bryan Loren as B.L Hudson and featured Dwight Dukes formally lead vocalists of Heaven & Earth – a Chicago based quartet … released on Philly World)

Too many fish in the sea – Frankie Knuckles featuring Adeva (Also known as Patrica Daniels on vocals … Frankie – ‘The Godfather of House’ at the helm and David Morales on the mixing desk nothing more is needs to be said)
