Today’s trax

Bridge over troubled water  –  Roberta Flack (We all know this is a cover the the Simon & Garfunkel masterpiece however Roberta made it her own … she played piano on the lp … from the album ‘Quiet Fire’ )

Let go  –  France Joli (Producer Tony Green likes them young – musically speaking of course as France was only sixteen when this trak was released on Prelude Records  … his other prodigy was 14 year old Freddie James when Tony produced his debut lp)

Don’t stop ’til you get enough  –  James Chance & The Contortions (James Siegfried went to New York playing his ‘Contorted’ saxophone with his Punk band …  there was usually an interesting Funky cover on his albums – in this case Michael Jackson mega-hit)

I  know a place  –  Victor Simonelli presents Sound of One (Released on One Records … vocals inspired by “I’ll take you there – Staple Singers”  … backbeat inspired by “Everyman – Double Exposure”)

You really got a hold on me  –  Bernard Edwards featuring Jocelyn Brown & Lenny Picket (Bernard was the other half of ‘Chic’ and released his one and only lp featuring this Smokey Robinson & The Miracles diamond – co-leading ‘session vocalist extraordinaire Jocelyn & Lenny of ‘Tower of Power on saxophone)

Over and over  –  Sylvester (When this trak was released – i ran out and bought the 7 inch (b-side Down, down down), i was disappointed … then i heard the 12″ and realised what everyone was talking about as you can’t enjoy it in it’s edited form)

Shakit  –  Brass Construction (One two – everybody are you ready … Shakit ! … they had me at ‘one’  … B.C. has never made a bad lp … they played London a few years ago and if i knew i would have been ‘Funkin’ that night)

Lagos jump  –  Afro Elements (Produced by Kerry Chandler and Jerome Sydenham and released on Ibadan Records known for breaking down the barriers – you can nearly call them ‘World-House’ as their influences are world-wide … not the same artists as ‘Afro Elements’ on Freestyle Records)

Today’s trax

The best thing a man can do for his woman  –   Lou Courtney (singer/song writer Lou underground lp was released on Epic Records … this man played away and now regrets it – realising that ‘the grass is not always greener’)

Mr. Big Shot  –  Simon Orchestra (Simon Soussan came to prominence as the producer of a studio group Shalamar with the medley ‘Uptown Festival’ on Soul Train Records … he then went on to form a variety of studio acts including an orchestra that carried his name)

Dont’t let ’em  –  Bootsy Collins featuring Rosie Gaines & Snoop Dogg (William ‘Bootsy’ Collins played with James Brown and George Clinton … Rosie showed her ‘Funktressness’ by being Prince’s first in-command …  Snoop – that ‘Dogg has been ‘Funking’ since he was a puppy)

Give you  –  Djaimin featuring Alessandra (When thinking of House Music – Switzerland is not a word that jumps into mind, however Swiss Dj/Producer Djaimin trak was released on Strictly Rhythm)
