Today’s trax

Candlelight and you  –  Keith Washington featuring Chante Moore (Even though she married another  – their musical chemistry fitted like a hand in a glove … also featured I’m House Party 2 O.S.T.)

Starvin’  –  The Trammps (All romantics at some time have suffered from being  ‘love sick’ – and all doctors knows that a couple of pills or an injection does not cure the illness but seeing their lover usually with some added ‘sweet loving’ works wonders from the lp ‘Disco Inferno)

Foxy Lady  –  Crown Heights Affair (After a not very successful stint at RCA Records this band signed to De-Lite Records and straight away started to crank out underground nuggets … from their lp ‘Dreaming a Dream’ – this was causing mayhem on the dance floor)

One leg on the ceiling …. nightstand  –  MCW presents Step (Inspired by the vulgar, sordid, smutty but wonderful “Desirable Revenge – Candy J”  – this gang tells of how to practice safe sex  …  there’s this big disease with a little name … a Nervous Records release)

How great thou art  –  Sylvester (This was from the last album from the late Sylvester James … this is a tribute to my mother who wanted me to do be the best person i can be in all fields … as a choir singer in our local church she used to sing this song)

Crazy disco music  –  Freddie James (This boy was only fourteen years old when this was recorded – his mother been the  accomplished singer/song-writer Geraldine Hunt obviously helped  …. written and produced by Tony Green for The Tony Green Organisation  …    originally released on Warner Brothers Records – a division of WEA Records)

Are you single  –  Aurra (Aurra was an offshoot of the funk band Slave and consists of Starlena Young and Curtis Jones …. they were usually produced by Steve Washington … released on Dream Records – a unit of Salsoul Records)

This is for the women  –  Classic Viv & Lawaetz (Released on the German label Compost … it’s
not easy to be unique and original like this trak)

Today’s trax

Heaven must be like this  –  The Ohio Players (Whilst recording for Westbound Records their music was simmering but they were more known for their record gatefold covers – a stunning bald black woman who oozed with sex appeal  …  now on Mercury they were boiling)

Never can say goodbye  –  Gloria Gaynor (An original U.S. hit for The Jackson Five – however i never heard their version until after Gloria had ‘discofied’ it  …  from her first lp of the same name – this lp was unique as it was the first ‘continuous play’ lp (side one only) was mixed by (uncredited) Tom Moulton …  now on cd)

Funk Connection  –  Dennis Coffey (Dennis was a Detroit session guitarist who worked for Motown Records along with a plethora of other small labels  …  i was looking for a lp by Dennis that featured his hit ‘Scorpio’, not aware that it was deleted years ago  – also a large number of record collectors was looking for it  too  …   read more about Dennis on his own website to find out why i so wanted it and how many Hip hop artists sampled it)

Come  –  Martha Wash (Think ‘Everybody dance now’, ‘It’s raining men’,  Blackbox except ‘Ride on time’  …  a lovely warm little woman with a steely smile – if you are lucky enough to hear her sing live – you can actually feel the power of her voice  …  mixed by “Grammy” winner Hex Hector)
