Today’s trax

Heaven must be like this  –  The Ohio Players (Whilst recording for Westbound Records their music was simmering but they were more known for their record gatefold covers – a stunning bald black woman who oozed with sex appeal  …  now on Mercury they were boiling)

Never can say goodbye  –  Gloria Gaynor (An original U.S. hit for The Jackson Five – however i never heard their version until after Gloria had ‘discofied’ it  …  from her first lp of the same name – this lp was unique as it was the first ‘continuous play’ lp (side one only) was mixed by (uncredited) Tom Moulton …  now on cd)

Funk Connection  –  Dennis Coffey (Dennis was a Detroit session guitarist who worked for Motown Records along with a plethora of other small labels  …  i was looking for a lp by Dennis that featured his hit ‘Scorpio’, not aware that it was deleted years ago  – also a large number of record collectors was looking for it  too  …   read more about Dennis on his own website to find out why i so wanted it and how many Hip hop artists sampled it)

Come  –  Martha Wash (Think ‘Everybody dance now’, ‘It’s raining men’,  Blackbox except ‘Ride on time’  …  a lovely warm little woman with a steely smile – if you are lucky enough to hear her sing live – you can actually feel the power of her voice  …  mixed by “Grammy” winner Hex Hector)
