Today’s trax

Hard Times   –  Curtis Mayfield (I recently saw a documentary called ‘Nobody knows my name’, it’s was about George Brown –  along with others, hijacked a plane from Miami to Algiers via Boston also demanded $1 million  successfully without anyone being injured … sadly or gladly the money was returned to the U.S. Government …. this trak was played as the credits rolled)

All night man  –  Loose Change (These singers were discovered by Jerry Moulton – brother of Tom Moulton for their ‘Tom ‘N’ Jerry Records imprint and released on Casablanca Records)

Be free  –  Dr. Togo ( Ex-vocalist of the Italian studio band Kano – Glenn White released this one-off single under pseudonym … which is now turning up on a variety of compilation cds)

How long  –  Full Intention presents Essence (The backbeat of this trak has truly been on a journey … inspired by ‘Dance – Earth People’ but with a new vocal on top which was also inspired by Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah) – Chic … originally released on their Strictly Rhythm distributed D-Tension Records)

A Prayer  –  The O’Jay’s (Heavenly Father, i pray for love, joy, peace and happiness … please give me strength because i get weak sometimes  … i prayer for the sick and the weak ones too these  are just some of the edited lyrics  … Eddie Levert on lead vocals – but i just couldn’t imagine  anyone else singing the song)

Classically Elise  –  Dino Solera (I bought this lp in London because it was on Giorgio Moroder’s Oasis Records also because i had read his name on one (or more) of Giorgio’s production credit listing …. when i arrived home that night i heard a more Classical piece that was been used as an advert on television)

Meter running  –  Speedometer (One of the new breed of Funk bands who are keeping the music style alive  …. inspired by The Meters hence the name … their trax are also being released in Japan where the is a very large Funk and Soul fan base)

Sometimes love  –  In-Sync featuring Jerry Edwards (This is/was the first remix ever by the hallowed dj David Morales  –  i was able to get him to autograph the cd which includes this trak some years ago)

Today’s trax

Big tears and make-up  –  Billie Ray Martin (Former lead vocalist of Electribe 101 is known more for dance floor action than haunting ballads … released on Magnet Records from her first solo lp/cd)

Dancin’ in the sky  –  Gene Page (Trak sounds more like an instrumentation of an uptempo Tavares hit of circa ’77 … goes back as far as ’63 as when he arranged that ‘wouldn’t stay down’ nugget ‘Harlem Shuffle – Bob & Earl’ – the rest of the world know it as the opening strings of ‘Jump around – House of Pain’)

She’s hot  –  Pulse (Released on Silver Cloud Records, a New York independent label – this Boogie was the b-side of ‘Don’t stop the magic’ …. this trak is now highly sort after because of it’s high quality and rarity)

Positive Vibration  –  Black Box (After litigation from Matha Wash & Loleatta Holloway due to unlawful use of their vocals on the first lp/cd  …. with a new harder edged sound – Charvoni was brought in to vocalise)
